Characterization Engineer - (Hillsboro, OR)

Position
The principal function of this position is to install, secure and maintain all offline solar cell characterization tools, the solar cell characterization engineer will closely work together with process engineers and technicians to also ensure the availability and uptime of inline measurement tools throughout the production line. Where necessary there will be offline tools for calibration purposes available or they might to be set up as a back up for the installed inline tools.
The solar cell characterization engineer will also have to work on trouble shooting occurring efficiency drops or similar events. This will be done by detailed analyses of solar cell characteristics that are not surveyed inline and also by working closely together with the quality department. In addition, the solar cell characterization engineer will work closely together with the department’s technical and process engineering teams as well as with the shop floor as e.g. to help implement new measures after having successfully improved process procedures.

Primary responsibilities for this position include:

  • Building up, managing and securing availability of solar cell characterization equipments.
  • Build up and organize internal testing procedures to check most critical production parameters.
  • Build a statistical cell archive for cell production surveillance.
  • Install close relationships to research institutions for tool benchmarking and special problem solving.
  • Prepare reports to vendors and suppliers about their quality performance and critically analyzes customer feedbacks.
  • Identify areas of process and equipment that are most critical to meet customer requests and coordinate/monitor continuous programs by collaborating with engineering and other departments.

Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

  • 2-5 years job experience in a production environment in a similar position.
  • Preferably experience in characterization as well as reliability- and defect analysis of solar cells or other semiconductor devices. Ideally good solar cell and device physics and/or optics knowledge.
  • Understands the needs of a high throughput production site that is under high cost pressure.
  • Likes to work in a small team together with other engineers to develop processes, production output and product quality.
  • Skilled in statistic data analysis.
  • Good knowledge of MS-Office products.
  • Must be willing to learn new skills in a short period of time and undergo a steady learning and training process going forward.
