Privileged to host top-ranking U.S. Senate Energy Committee members

Having two top-ranking members of the U.S. Senate Energy Committee meeting in SolarWorld’s state-of-the-art module assembly building, known as "SA7" on campus, was a privilege that we looked forward to all week.
It’s not often that we get the opportunity to host such a collection of policy-makers. We took this responsibility to heart and made sure the facility represented all of the capabilities of SolarWorld in the Americas.
The tour was lead by, Gordon Brinser, president of SolarWorld Industries America Inc., who gave a detailed overview of the solar panel manufacturing process, from processing polysilicon to shipping a completed solar panel.

This was Oregon Senator Ron Wyden’s third visit to our facility, so he kind of hung back and we chatted. He asked me how the team was doing with all the market pressure from the Far East. I told him that the team preferred to be running at 100 mph with our hair on fire everyday but that we understood the market conditions and were willing to do whatever was necessary to make SolarWorld successful.

He replied that he always loved coming to the facility and that he loved the energy the team had. He also commented that he understood the challenges we’re facing in the market and he was working diligently to get them addressed.
On the completion of the tour, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski commented how impressed she was with the facility. She had this big smile on her face for most of the tour so I assume this was one of the more automated facilities she’s visited.

All of the dignitaries thanked us for the tour and our time. Seeing this level of genuine support from our politicians was very exciting.
I hope we get the chance to host similar events in the future. These events give us the opportunity to do the two things we love - show off the production areas and brag about the wonderful teams we have at SolarWorld.
