National solar power program
Question: How did Germany become the world leader in solar energy?
Germany: Green Jobs = 280,000
Solar Jobs in 2009 = 55,000 Population Size = 81,757,600 MW installed in 2009 = 3,000 Solar Potential = 3.0 (kWh/m²/Day) |
USA: Green Jobs = ??? (Still being defined)
Solar Jobs in 2009 = 25,000 Population Size = 309,628,000 MW installed in 2009 = 475 Solar Potential = 3.0 (Alaska) to 6.8 (SouthWest) |
Answer: Germany REWARDS its citizens for creating green energy.
Map of the USA's available solar
resource v. Germany from seia.org Germany requires that all utilities pay German citizens for the amount of green energy (solar, wind, geothermal, small hydro, biomass, and biogas) that they produce and put into the electricity grid. They call it a Feed-In Tariff (FIT), but it really is a Green Energy Reward!
Green Energy Reward Elements:
- All Americans should have the right to put solar on their roofs (home, work, schools, malls, warehouses) and in their fields (farms, wineries, brownfields) and receive a fixed payment from the utilities for the green energy that they produce.
- All Americans should have the right to connect their solar systems to the grid without burdensome and unnecessary limitations from the utilities.
- All Americans should have the right to sell their green energy and related environmental benefits directly to the utilities without going through a complicated process or third party.
- All Americans should have the right to receive payments from the utilities regardless of how small or large a system they choose install.
- All Americans should have the right to receive a payment that covers both their cost of installing the solar system and a reasonable reward for doing so.
- All Americans should have the right to receive a higher payment the sooner they put solar on their roofs and help inspire others to do so as well.
What Can We Do?
American Citizens Need to Demand a Green Energy Reward in the U.S.A.!
- Call you legislators (federal, state and local) and tell them to pass Green Energy Reward/FIT legislation by November!
- Vote for legislators that go on record in support of Green Energy Reward/FIT legislation.
- Call your energy utility and tell them you want a Green Energy Reward/FIT program.
