Building a Solar World

Posted 15 April 2011 12:00 AM by Kevin Kilkelly, President, SolarWorld Americas

I’m Kevin Kilkelly, president of SolarWorld Americas, and I’d like to personally welcome you to the first installment of our new blog.

We’re starting it in a year when solar – and SolarWorld – are going prime time.

SolarWorld Americas has built a U.S. work force of 1,250-plus people, everyone from Ph.D.s to forklift drivers. We are involved in every step of the manufacturing process so the end customer is assured that the quality of each panel is higher than the industry standard. We’ve built up giant factories in Hillsboro, Ore., and modernized one in Camarillo, Calif.

As the largest solar panel manufacturer in the Americas and worldwide, we make enough solar panels to equip a home every two minutes!

Our employees are full of passion about the possibilities for solar energy. Mukesh Dulani, vice president for operations, says it best, “We’re building a solar world”: His dream is “to do something different, something that would change the world.”

Mukesh works in Hillsboro, but he used to work in Camarillo, where he helped modernize the 35-year-old plant. Today, it’s the living historical starting line for the U.S. solar industry.

The future of solar is now, and the U.S. market is thriving. In coming posts, you’ll hear about big installations of our solar panels at familiar places – historical sites, military bases, and recreation centers. We’ll share stories of how people are bringing solar power to their homes, businesses, schools and communities.

I invite you to join us on our journey as we - and you - build a solar world. We look forward to hearing from you! Please join us on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr.
